Impromptu Doctor's Appointment

So for those of you who didn't know we had an appointment with Isabelle's neurosurgeon today because there were some concerns that she was moving her neck more than should be able to.  Most people with the type of fusion that Isabelle has will have absolutely zero motion in their neck.  Isabelle however has been looking down and even side to side some.  The motion is very limited but it was enough to warrant a check up.  We went in and they took some x-rays and from what the doctor saw everything is still in line just like it is supposed to be.

This, of course, begs the question "Then how is she moving her neck?"

It's a good question.  However, it is a question that we do not know the answer to.  One explanation is that because she has one vertebrae in her c-spine that is not fused that one vertebrae is allowing her that motion.  It could be that because she has Larsen's and her joints are so loose anyway that she has more motion than a typical person would.  It could be a mixture of both of those things or it could be just one of those things you chalk up to God's work.  We may never know but we will take it!

  7. Wait a minute - good news for a change - Yeah!!! I am so happy for you guys! Did he give you any idea how long Isabelle will wear the collar or is it just a wait and see thing? Maybe we can have lunch one day next week during shift change. It has been too long since I have gotten to see the cute Miss.

  9. When Reagan was a baby, she developed a subdural hematoma. One xray showed her shunt tube had moved into the hematoma and appeared to be draining it. The next showed that the shunt tube had returned to its normal route. The neurologists couldn't explain it. Miracle? God? Wonders of the human body and spirit? We've had her for another 30.5 years now - and I've observed before that Belli has the same attitude and spirit Reagan has had always!
